Daily care
What each horse is meant to get, what it actually got, and who did it.
Care instructions
On a horse's page, the Care card holds standing instructions: feed, hay, supplements, medication, turnout, blanketing, and anything else, each with its round (AM, Noon, PM, Night or any time) and when it ends. A changed instruction keeps the old one as history.
Day and night turnout
Two horses can share a turnout on a schedule, one out by day and the other out at night. A horse's turnout (on its Location card) is only where it goes out, so give both horses the same turnout, and say when in the care rounds: on each horse's Care card, add a turnout instruction for the round it goes out and another for the round it comes in.
- Give both horses the turnout, say Turnout 1: on each horse's page, Location → Change turnout.
- For the horse that goes out at night: a turnout instruction “Turn out to Turnout 1” on the PM round and “Bring in” on the AM round.
- For the horse that goes out by day: “Turn out to Turnout 1” on AM and “Bring in” on PM.
Each round then lists who goes out and who comes in, staff log it as they go, and Horses → Care shows the whole rotation at once.
Every horse at once
Horses → Care reads every horse's instructions together as a table: a row per horse (its picture, where it lives, and a red word when it isn't healthy) and a column for each round the barn uses, AM, Noon, PM, Night and Any time. A round nobody has anything in isn't shown. Day is one day; Week shows the week, day by day. On a phone each horse is a card with its rounds stacked.
In each cell, a horse's lines of the same kind sit together: Feed · 2, with one big circle. Tap it to mark every line in it done at once (what you do with everything in the bucket); tap it again, or Undo, to take that back. Each line keeps its own small circle for when only part happened, and the big circle then shows half done (“1 of 3 done”). A kind with one line has just the big circle. Who did it and when shows once on the group. The group's ⋯ has Add another, Change a line, Skipped, say why and Open the horse.
Amounts read as one piece, set apart from the product: 1½ lb · Triple Crown Balancer. When the measure itself starts with a number it reads 1 × 1 qt, so it never looks like eleven. Amount and measure are both optional; the amount takes 1, 1.5, 1/2, 1 1/2 or ½.
Each kind of care has its own icon and color: feed, hay, supplement, medication, turnout, blanket, grooming, stall, water, handling and other. The chips above the table narrow it to one kind or several, and to one round or several (AM for the morning feed); All shows everything again. A horse with nothing in what's shown drops out. The table is sorted by name; Sort also offers where they live. The view and the chips stay in the page's address, so a bookmark comes back to the same sheet.
A horse that is injured, rehabbing or sick is listed at the top of the page, with since when and the note from its Health status card, so whoever is feeding knows before they open the stall. Horses with no care plan yet are listed under the table with Add care.
Weather by round
Each round's column carries the barn's weather for it: the temperature at the round's usual time, rain or snow over the round, the wind, and on the Night check the overnight low; a round that's over is dimmed and an alert tags the rounds it overlaps. On a phone it's one Weather by round card above the horses. Facts only: what to put on whom stays the care plan's. See Weather at the barn.
Printing a sheet
The ⋯ menu prints just the table (or the week), in color, sideways, with the barn's name and the date at the top.
What got logged
Logged today, under the table, lists everything logged on the day, newest first, with who did it and when; anything marked not done says why. The arrows beside Today step back through earlier days, where the table shows what was done, read only.
The log
Each horse's page shows the last week of care at a glance, and the full log by date. The log is for the barn's staff: owners and other clients never see it, or who did what.
What owners see, and their suggestions
A horse's owners, and a lessee while the lease runs, see the horse's care plan on its Care tab: the lines by round, as the barn sets them. Not the log, who did what, or staff notes. They can suggest a change to a line, suggest stopping one, or suggest something new, with when it should start and why.
A suggestion goes to the barn's owner and managers, in Needs you and as a notification, and shows under its line on the horse's Care tab. Review puts the plan now beside the suggestion. Approve and change the plan changes it from the day it starts (the old line stays in the horse's history); Edit, then approve lets you adjust it first; Decline asks for a reason. Either way the owner is told, with your note.
Settings → Horse care → What owners see has three switches: owners see their horse's care plan (on to begin with), owners can suggest changes (on), and staff without manager rights can approve too (off). With the first two off, care is the staff's alone.
