Getting started

Your first day: sign in, put the barn in, and bring your staff along.

Signing in the first time

Your barn was set up with the email you used to sign up. Open app.1barn.com and sign in with Google using that address, choose Email me a sign-in link, or choose Forgot password? to have a sign-in link emailed to you, then set a password under My profile › Sign-in. Any way, you land on your barn's dashboard as its owner.

Add your horses

  1. Open Horses and choose Add horse. A name is enough to start; everything else can come later.
  2. On the horse's page, add the owner under Owners, set where it lives under Location, and add a photo.
  3. Health records, care instructions, and the emergency card each have their own card on the horse's page.

Have a spreadsheet? Reply to your welcome email with it attached and we'll load your horses and people for you.

Add your people

Open People and add boarders, staff, and family members. A person's kind (boarder, staff, vendor) is a label for filing. Whether they can sign in, and what they can do, comes from an invitation; see People and logins.

Invite your staff

On the People page, each person with an email has an Invite button. As the owner you can invite someone as a customer, who sees their own horses, or as staff, who run the barn with you. They get an email with a link; the first sign-in with that address accepts it.

Where things are

The left sidebar lists every area. On the phone, the first four are tabs and the last, More, holds the rest, with your profile, Help and support and Sign out. You can put the areas in your own order under your account page, separately for the web and the phone.

The Ask box at the top of the sidebar, or ⌘K, finds horses, people, documents, and signed forms by anything written on them, and for staff it asks Ask 1barn too: type a question or an errand and press Enter. Boarders see it as Search.

If you're more than one thing at the barn (an owner who boards a horse, a manager who teaches, staff whose child rides), the dashboard has a switch at the top: The barn, My work (your shifts and time off), Teaching (the lessons you teach this week) and My barn (what a boarder sees: your own horses, your family's lessons and your balance; it used to be its own page in the menu). It remembers the one you picked last. My work opens with Your next shifts: the next one (how soon it starts, and who else is on) and the rest of your week. On The barn, the Shifts card shows the week as a strip of days with how many people are on each; tap a day to see who works it.

The dashboard opens with Open tasks: every decision waiting on you, from every part of 1barn (time to approve, offered shifts, trades and time off, open shifts people answered, lesson requests to place, documents to sign). Most have their button right there; Open takes you to the page with the whole story. Needs a look, further down, is what's worth knowing but isn't a decision, like a horse without a turnout or a vaccine coming due.

Every view of the dashboard has the barn's Weather: now, the next seven days, and today and tomorrow round by round, with any weather alert in an amber banner at the top. It needs the barn's address under Settings → Barn profile. See Weather at the barn.
