For boarders, riders, and families
Your barn runs on 1barn. This is the part of it that's yours: your horses, your documents, your account, and the barn's calendar.
Your invitation
- The barn sends an email with a link. Open it; the page says You've been invited.
- The invite page names your barn and the address it was sent to. There's no separate sign-up. Choose a password (it says what a password needs) and type it again, then Create password and sign in: you're in, with the barn added. If the invited email is a Google account, Continue with Google works instead. If you already have a 1barn login with that address, from another barn, the page asks you to sign in instead, and the barn is added to it.
- You land on My barn. From then on, open app.1barn.com and sign in the same way.
The link expires after a few days; if it has, ask the barn for another. Sign in with the address it was sent to, not a different one. If a second barn invites the same email, accept with the same login.
What you see, and why
Your menu has My barn, My horses, Calendar, and, when the barn uses them, Shared files and Messages. You see the horses you have a part in: as owner, co-owner, lessee, the parent paying for a child's pony, or an agent for someone away. The barn records who is what on each horse, so if one of yours is missing, ask the barn to add you to it. Other boarders' horses aren't yours to see, and the same holds for them about you.
My barn gathers it in one place: your horses and where each lives, documents waiting for your signature, events you've booked, and your account. Family members the barn has linked to you (a parent and a rider, say) each get a block on the same page.
Your horse's page
Open a horse from My barn or My horses: its profile and photos, its stall and turnout, who is on the horse with you, health records and renewals (Coggins, vaccines, and the like), notes and documents. The barn keeps these up to date; you read them. A record the barn kept internal won't appear, and a record's notes appear only when the barn shares them with you.
When the barn shares it, an owner (or a lessee while the lease runs) also sees the horse's Care tab: its care plan by round, feed, hay, supplements, meds, turnout and blankets, as the barn sets them. Tap a line to suggest a change, or choose Suggest something new; say when it should start and why. The barn's owner and managers decide, and nothing changes until they approve it. While it waits, the line says Waiting on the barn, with Withdraw; the answer comes as a notification and an email, and Suggestions keeps what you've suggested and what the barn said. The care log and who did what stay with the barn.
The card that is yours to change is In an emergency: who the barn calls, who may decide for the horse when you can't be reached, the vet, and any limit on spending. Choose Edit to change it. If nothing has changed, choose Still true now and then; the barn is warned when a card hasn't been confirmed in over a year. For a name, a photo, or anything else on the page, tell the barn.
Your horses' activity
More → Activity lists every change to your horses and your own profile: what changed, from what to what, and when. Changes you made say You; changes the barn's staff made say the barn's name. You can undo your own changes there while nothing has changed them since; for the barn's, Message the barn. If the barn undoes a change you made, you get a notice. See Activity and undo.
Farrier and vet days
When the barn schedules a farrier, vet, dentist, or vaccine day, it appears on your Calendar and on your dashboard while sign-ups are open. Open the day, tick your horses under Your horses, and tap Next. You see how many horses are on the list and how many spots are left, not whose they are.
Most days ask a few questions for each horse, such as its age, its last dental, and its medications, for the vet. Each horse gets its own form, with a button per horse at the top. On the second horse, Copy from Belle copies your answers from the first, except the ones that come from each horse's own record. Some questions appear only after an answer that needs them ("Which vet will give them?" after No), and go away with their answers if you change it. A required question you skipped says so when you tap the button, and the foot counts what's left. The button says Next: Juniper's form while another horse follows, and Sign them up on the last. Save and finish later puts the horse on the list with its answers not finished; 1barn reminds you before the day. Afterward, Sign Juniper up too offers any of your horses that aren't on the list yet.
An answer marked From Belle's record is filled in from what the barn already has in 1barn, such as her age or her last dental. If it's wrong, change it: the record's value shows under it, with Also update Belle's record ticked. Leave it ticked and Belle's record changes when you save, and the barn can see what changed and when; untick it to change only this answer. Your own contact details update your profile.
If the barn puts your horse on the list and asks you to answer, you get a notice and an email, and the day shows Answer for Juniper. You can change your answers, or take a horse off the list, until the barn closes sign-ups; after that, ask the barn. The barn's own comments about your horses on the day are for staff, and you never see them.
Lessons and the waiting list
Barns with a lesson program publish a page for new and returning riders. It asks for the rider, what they're after, the days and times that work, and a few words about goals and experience; the last step is Join the waiting list. The barn works from that list when it builds a term and tells you when a lesson is yours; it then shows on your Calendar.
Events
Clinics, shows, and barn gatherings have a booking page, linked from the barn's website or messages. Enter your name and email, answer the event's questions, accept the waiver if there is one, and choose Register. A paid event takes you to secure payment next; a confirmation reaches your email either way, and the event joins the list on My barn.
Signing documents
A boarding agreement, a waiver, a release: the barn sends it, and you get an email when it's your turn. Open the link, read it, fill in the fields, and sign. When everyone has signed, the finished copy comes to your email and is saved to the horse it's about. You can decline instead, with a note about why. Some barns also post a public form, say for new riders; it asks for your name and email and sends a link to confirm the address before you sign.
Messages and files
Messages has boards and private threads. A board is where the barn posts to a group; everyone it's aimed at can read and reply, so a board called Boarders is read by all the boarders. A private message is between you and the people in it and stays that way. To start one, choose Write and pick who it's to: the barn's staff, and anyone else the barn lets you message. The first Send starts the conversation; if you already have one with them, it goes there. Shared files is what the barn has shared with you: documents and links, in folders.
Your calendar, in your own calendar
On Calendar, choose Subscribe to add it to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook. Each subscription is a named link carrying what you'd see on the page, with the filters showing (one per horse or child if you like), and it keeps itself current. Your calendar links, in the same menu, renames, replaces or turns one off.
Your statement and how you pay
When the barn bills through 1barn, My barn shows your balance and the last few entries on your account: board, extras, payments, credits. Ask the barn for a full statement. My profile → How you pay says whether you pay by check, bank transfer, or card. If the barn charges a method on file, the card shows what's on file with a Save a payment method or Replace it button, and what you owe is charged on the first of the month.
Card and bank details go straight to Stripe, which handles the barn's payments; 1barn keeps only a label like Visa ·4242.
Your profile and the phone app
My profile is yours alone: your name and picture as the barn sees them, light or dark mode, a theme, and the order of your menu. Nothing there changes what anyone else sees.
On a phone, app.1barn.com works in the browser, and the 1barn app for iPhone, iPad, and Android is the same thing with a tab bar; see The phone app for installing it. The first four areas in your menu order become the tabs (My barn, My horses, Messages and Calendar unless you change them), arranged separately from the web, and More, the last tab, holds the rest: your profile, Search, your other areas, and Sign out.
Whom to ask
Your barn first, for almost everything: a horse you can't see, a record that looks wrong, a charge on your account. The barn owns the records and can fix them. For trouble signing in, write to support@1barn.com and say which barn you're at.
