Talk to 1barn
A conversation with your barn while your hands are busy: in the aisle, at the trailer, on the drive.
What it is
With the 1barn connector in your Claude or ChatGPT account, the phone app becomes a way to talk to your barn. Ask what a horse gets at evening, who's working tomorrow, or what the farrier has on Thursday, and hear the answer from your own records, under your own 1barn login, with the role your barn gave you. You can ask it to do things too, like log care or offer up a shift; the app checks with you before anything changes.
It's the same connector described in 1barn in Claude and ChatGPT, used out loud from your phone.
Set it up in Claude
- Once, on Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Settings → Connectors and add 1barn as a custom connector with
https://api.1barn.com/mcp, then sign in with your 1barn login. The steps are on Use 1barn in your AI app. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan; Free allows one. - Open the Claude app on your phone, signed in to the same Claude account. Connectors you added on the web or desktop are there too.
- Start voice mode and ask. Claude's voice mode can use your connected tools the same way a typed chat does, so you can ask your barn out loud. On Free, that's your one connected tool.
Set it up in ChatGPT
Today, ChatGPT lets Business and Enterprise workspaces add 1barn: a workspace admin adds it on ChatGPT on the web, and each person connects with their own 1barn login. On other ChatGPT plans, 1barn arrives once our ChatGPT listing is approved.
Once 1barn is connected, open the ChatGPT app on your phone and tap the microphone in the message box to say your question instead of typing it. Whether a ChatGPT voice conversation can use the 1barn app is up to ChatGPT and has varied, so dictating into the message box is the dependable way to talk to 1barn there.
Things to say
Short and spoken works best. A few to start with:
- What does Blaze get at evening? The care instructions for Blaze's Evening (PM) round.
- Who's working tomorrow morning? Tomorrow's morning shifts and who has each one.
- What's still unchecked on the noon round? What nobody has marked done yet at Noon.
- Log that Maple finished her grain. It says back what it will log for Maple and waits for your yes.
- Remind me which horses the farrier sees Thursday. The horses signed up for Thursday's Farrier day.
- Is Juniper's Coggins up to date? The date on Juniper's Coggins, and when it's due.
- Who owns Stella, and how do I reach the owner? Stella's owner and contact, if your role can see it.
- When do I work next? Your next shift, if your barn uses staff scheduling.
- Offer up my Saturday shift. It says which shift it will offer up and waits for your yes.
- Did anyone do the night check last night? Who logged the Night check, and when.
Tips
Say names clearly. Horse and people names are the words a phone mishears most. If it finds the wrong horse, say the name again, or spell it.
It repeats changes back. 1barn's tools tell your AI app whether they only read or change records, and the app asks before changing anything. Listen for what it says it will do: the horse, the round, the shift.
Nothing changes until you say yes. Asking is safe. If what it repeats back isn't right, say no and correct it. Anything that can't be undone is marked so the app asks plainly.
One thing at a time. Ask about one horse or one shift at a time; a follow-up like “and at night check?” works in the same conversation.
Privacy
Talking works the same as typing to your AI app: what you say goes to Claude or ChatGPT under your account with them and their terms, and the barn records needed to answer come from 1barn under your login. What a connected assistant can see is in the privacy policy, under “ChatGPT, Claude, and other assistants you connect.” Disconnect any time in your AI app's settings.
Inside 1barn
Ask 1barn, the assistant inside 1barn, is typed for now: there's no voice mode in 1barn itself. On a phone, the keyboard's dictation works in the Ask box, so you can still say a question and read the answer.
