Error messages, explained
1barn says no in plain words, but a short sentence can't always say why. Here's the longer version for each.
Signing in
That sign-in took a little too long. A sign-in is good for fifteen minutes from the button; you stopped along the way, probably to set a password, and that part is saved. Tap Sign in again.
Your account isn't a member of any facility yet. You're signed in, but no barn has invited this email address. Ask the barn for an invitation, and sign in with the address they send it to.
invite expired, invite already used, invalid invite. An invitation link works once, for seven days. Ask the barn to send a fresh one from your person page.
…'s 1barn subscription ended on …, so nothing there can be read or changed. What Claude, ChatGPT or Ask 1barn says at a barn whose subscription has ended (canceled, unpaid, or paused). In the app the barn shows a short note instead of its pages. Any owner of the barn can restart it (or pay the open invoice) at app.1barn.com, in a web browser; see Your plan and billing.
The app was updated while you had this page open — reload the page and try again. Exactly that. Reload and repeat the last step.
People and roles
staff only. That action, usually editing a record, is for the owner and staff. Ask the barn to make the change, or ask the owner for a staff role.
only the owner can grant staff access / only the owner can change what a login may do. Staff can invite boarders and vendors, but roles are the owner's to hand out. Ask the owner.
you can't change your own role. The owner stays the owner. To hand the barn to someone else, write to support@1barn.com.
they don't have a login yet — invite them first. You set a role on a person who is only a record. Send the invitation from their page; once they accept, the role applies.
Horses and the facility
not your horse / no access. A customer sees the horses they're a party to, a vendor the horses they're linked to. If a horse should be yours, the barn adds you on its Owners card.
Maple's turnout just changed. Showing the latest. Someone else changed the horse's home or turnout at the same moment you did (another tap, or another person). The page refreshes with what's there now; make your change again if it's still needed.
that space doesn't take horses. You assigned a horse to a barn, an arena, or another space that isn't a stall or turnout. Pick one of the stalls or turnouts inside it.
this day is full — raise the cap if the farrier can take another / sign-ups for this day are closed — ask the barn. A service day has a cap and a window. Staff can raise the cap or reopen sign-ups on the day; a boarder asks the barn.
a record is something that happened, not something planned. Health records and care logs are dated today or earlier. For a future visit, set a renewal or a care instruction instead.
Sign
template has sent envelopes; its fields are frozen / save it as a new version instead. Once a template has gone out, its fields stay put so signed copies stay true. Choose Save as new version and edit that.
uploaded file is not a readable PDF / PDF must be between 1 byte and 25 MB. Export it as PDF again, under 25 MB.
that code doesn't match, that code has expired — request a new one, too many tries — request a new code. Revealing a secure field takes a one-time code emailed to you. It lasts ten minutes; request another and paste it carefully.
electronic-business consent is required before signing. The signer has to tick the consent box before the signature counts.
Calendar and events
this event is sold out. Capacity is reached. Staff can raise it on the event; a rider asks the barn.
online payments aren't set up for this barn. Paid registration needs the barn's Stripe account connected under Settings → Payments. Owner only.
That file is over 25 MB. / PDFs and images only, for now. Shared files takes PDFs and images up to 25 MB.
Lessons
a lesson runs 15 minutes to 4 hours. Check the end time; a lesson ending the next day is the usual cause.
a student isn't at this barn, likewise an instructor or a horse. Add them under People or Horses first.
that proposal was applied; undo it on the calendar. A solver proposal becomes real lessons when applied, so it can't be discarded afterward. Change the lessons themselves.
this barn doesn't take lesson requests here. The public request page needs Lessons, which is on the Program plan. The owner can change plans under Settings → Plan and billing.
Finance
the finance area is owner-only / that isn't your account. Ledgers, balances, and billing runs are for the owner alone, by design. A client sees their own account and no one else's.
Stripe isn't connected for this barn (Settings → Payments). Charging a card on file needs the barn's Stripe account. Owner only.
that entry was already adjusted — adjust the corrected one. A correction is a new entry pointing at the old one; adjust the latest in the chain.
Billing and plans
you're already on that plan / that plan isn't available right now. The first is a double click. The second means the plan isn't open for new subscriptions yet; join the waitlist on the same card and we'll email you.
couldn't open the billing portal. The link to Stripe's card and invoice page didn't come back. Try once more; if it repeats, write to support@1barn.com.
Support
The server threw a shoe. / Something spooked the server. Something on our side broke while loading the page; nothing you did caused it. Try again in a minute. If it keeps happening, owners, managers and staff tap Write to 1barn Support under Try again: 1barn Support opens with the page's reference attached, so there's nothing to copy. Everyone else quotes the reference at the bottom of the page when writing to support@1barn.com.
1barn's AI is turned off for this barn. 1barn Support can turn it back on. What Ask 1barn says when 1barn has turned it off for the barn. Tap Write to 1barn Support under it to ask why, or to have it back.
the assistant isn't available right now / the assistant couldn't answer; a person will. Your message is saved either way. A person reads it and replies in the thread and by email.
If a message isn't here, send it to us as written, with the page you were on, through Support or support@1barn.com. For the broader situations, see When something isn't working.
