Search and keyboard shortcuts
One box finds anything in the barn, and for staff it asks Ask 1barn too. Two keystrokes take you anywhere.
The Ask box
Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl-K on Windows, or press / or ? when you are not typing in a field. The box at the top of the sidebar opens the same thing: for staff it says Ask, with the Ask 1barn mark, because it searches and asks Ask 1barn in one place. For boarders, riders and families it says Search and only searches.
Start typing a name or a page and the matches group themselves: Horse, Person, Event, Document (a form sent for signature), Template, Board, and pages. Use the arrow keys to move, Enter to open, Esc to close. Searches under two characters show only the Go to and Create commands.
For staff with Ask 1barn, matches come first and Ask 1barn · “what you typed” sits below them. Type something that reads like a question or an errand (ending with ?, starting with a question word such as who, what, when, how, is or can, or four words or more) and Ask 1barn moves to the top: Enter asks, and the matches still show below. The answer opens right in the box; see Ask 1barn.
What you can find follows what you can see. Staff find every horse, and a horse also matches its owner's name, which is how most people look one up. Boarders find their own horses. People, events, documents, and templates are staff-only. Boards match if they are public or you are a member. The modules your plan has not turned on are simply not searched.
Horses and people show their picture, or initials and a horse tile without one, and a line that tells them apart: a horse's sex, where it lives now and its first owner (“Gelding · Stall 5 · Jordan Ellis”), and what a person is to the barn (“Manager · Instructor”, “Boarder · owns Maple”, “Farrier”). Searching by email still finds someone, but the line never shows it.
Go somewhere: g, then a letter
No modifier key. Press g, then the letter, anywhere you are not typing. The ⌘K box shows each command's keys beside it.
Every tab is in the box too, by its section and name: type pay for Schedule › Payroll, sig for Documents › Signatures, or staffing for Barn settings › Staffing, and Enter takes you straight to it.

Create something: n, then a letter
All of these are for staff.
- n h New horse
- n p New person
- n e New event
- n l New lesson
- n s Send for signature
Typing a command's name in the box works too, and loosely: nh finds New horse and cal finds Calendar. A command only appears if your role and your plan allow it, so a boarder never sees New person and a barn without Sign never sees Send for signature.
Searching Signatures
Documents → Signatures has its own box, Search names, horses or anything on a form; press Enter or pause typing. Staff remember a contract by the rider or the horse, not by the form's name, so a search matches the form's name, its template, its signers, the horse or person it is filed under, and every value typed into a text, date, radio, or drop-down field. Each hit says why it matched, such as Full name: Bo Arder or horse: Apollo. Secure fields are never searched. The same matching runs when the ⌘K box returns a Document.
Finding a horse
The Horses list has its own search box, with Active and Archived filters; or press g h to open it, or ⌘K and type the horse's name, registered name, or owner. Once you are on the horse's page, its documents, care, and health records are all there without another search.
On the phone
The app's bar shows your first four menu items as tabs, then More. For staff, Ask is one of the four (fourth unless you move it): it opens full screen, and search results and asking come together. Boarders, riders and families find Search at the top of More; it opens straight to typing, with what you opened recently below. Everything not on the bar is in More (see The phone app). Change which four are tabs under My profile → Menu order → In the app.
Shortcuts sit out while you are typing in a field, and g or n forgets itself after a moment if no second key follows. Press ? to open the box and see every command with its keys.
